- What's the maximum number?
- Classical Roman numerals go up to 3999 (MMMCMXCIX). Above that you need vinculum (bar over numerals) or nonstandard notation. The tool caps at 3999 by default.
- Does it convert back?
- Yes — paste Roman numerals, get the decimal. Validates subtractive notation (IV not IIII, XL not XXXX).
- What about zero and negatives?
- Romans had no zero. Negative numbers are anachronistic. The tool errors on both — classical Roman only.
- Are there multiple valid spellings?
- Canonical spelling uses subtractive notation (IV = 4). Additive (IIII = 4) is seen on clock faces for visual balance. Tool accepts both on input, outputs canonical.
