- What makes a monochromatic palette work?
- Single hue with varying lightness and saturation. Visually cohesive — no competing colors. Good for minimalist designs and single-product branding.
- How many shades are generated?
- 9 lightness steps at fixed saturation. Plus 9 saturation variants at fixed lightness (toggle). That's 17+ tones from a single base color.
- Is mono palette boring?
- Can be — works best with strong typography, imagery, or accent colors from a complementary palette. Not for high-energy designs.
- Does it handle near-white and near-black?
- Near-gray hues get washed out. The tool warns when the base color has low saturation; a gray hue produces a gray mono-palette (which isn't useful).
